Before arriving to the United States in 1994, Ibrahim was taken by the Serbian Army and tortured in a concentration camp. He escaped with the help of an American soldier. One year later, he sponsored my family to come to the U.S. Without Ibrahim, none of us would be here.” Josh Hagler wrote: My grandfather’s hands are memorable to me. He lost part of one finger aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise while saving a fellow crewman’s life, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart in WWII. He became a farmer when he returned and lost bits of other fingers in farming incidents. He holds my brother as an infant here.” Nick Brown wrote: “Henry Brown is my dad’s dad. He was a policeman in London prior to joining the Royal Air Force during WWII. He flew bombers during the war and returned to the police force afterwards. I admire him very much and see many of his traits and mannerisms in my father, my brother and myself.—Maja Ruznić
